From 5 – 7 February 2020, Rijk Zwaan participated in the Fruit Logistica fair in Berlin. The international fresh produce tradeshow that covers the latest innovations, products and services in the supply chain. Our theme of this year’s show was ‘Stronger together’. The pay-off from our organic campaign. Which stands for working cooperatively with growers, retailers and trading companies towards common (future) goals. Read more about our healthy organic snacks, green packaging options and innovative products.
Healthy organic snacks
One of the introductions was our new snack brand. The healthy lifestyle trend and the increase in popularity of snacks, inspired Rijk Zwaan to develop SN!BS. Rijk Zwaan is devoted to reduce plastic packaging and introduced new green packaging ideas for SN!BS, designed by PaperWise. This packaging is produced from agricultural waste by using 100% green energy and is biological degradable (PaperWise, 2020). A sustainable packaging was a high priority for us as it is one of the main sustainability issues in the fresh produce sector.
To continue on sustainable packaging, during the organic meet-up on Thursday evening we highlighted laser marking to brand vegetables. A text or logo is marked on the vegetable by a laser that serves as a substitute for physical packaging. This prevents the use of plastic packaging materials, which are harmful to the environment. On the other hand, the use of physical packaging is still important in the food sector. It provides traceability, helps preserving food quality and is essential for minimizing food waste.
New organic aubergine
Speaking of new innovative products, a new product is developed for the organic market: a green striped eggplant. Which not only has a remarkable appearance but also is very tasteful. Visitors at our stand were likeminded and shared our enthusiasm about this extraordinary and healthy variety.
The fair has been a great success and we received positive feedback on our newest concepts.
